Indications

Respiratory disease in cattle and pigs caused by susceptible bacteria (such as Mannheimia and Pasteurella)

Contraindications & warnings

Not to be used in animals whose milk is intended for human consumption, per its approved labels
Generally not used in breeding males, per some labels
Caution in hepatic or renal impairment

Drug interactions

Theoretical antagonism with beta-lactams and other bactericidal antibiotics (as the phenicol is bacteriostatic, weakening bactericidal agents that need actively dividing bacteria)

Prudent use of antibiotics

Prescribed based on diagnosis and susceptibility testing where possible, to limit antibiotic resistance.
