Mechanism of action

Indications
- Local and regional anesthesia for surgical procedures
- Control of some cardiac (ventricular) arrhythmias
Contraindications & warnings
- Not to be injected directly into blood vessels when used for local anesthesia
- Overdose may cause convulsions and cardiac depression — cats are more sensitive
- Avoid preparations containing a vasoconstrictor (epinephrine) in terminal extremities
Drug interactions
- Cardiac toxicity is aggravated with other antiarrhythmic drugs
- Enhanced central depression with sedatives
