Meloxicam
Anti-inflammatories & AnalgesicsA non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that preferentially inhibits cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). It reduces the synthesis of prostaglandins that cause inflammation, pain, and fever, with relatively less effect on COX-1, which protects the stomach and kidneys.

Mechanism of action
A non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that preferentially inhibits cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). It reduces the synthesis of prostaglandins that cause inflammation, pain, and fever, with relatively less effect on COX-1, which protects the stomach and kidneys.
Indications
- Pain and inflammation relief in musculoskeletal disorders
- Post-surgical pain
- Adjunct in acute inflammatory conditions (such as respiratory disease and diarrhea)
Contraindications & warnings
- Gastrointestinal ulceration or bleeding
- Renal, hepatic, or cardiac impairment, dehydration, and hypovolemia
- Pregnancy in general
- Not to be combined with another NSAID or a corticosteroid
Drug interactions
- Increased risk of nephrotoxicity with diuretics, ACE inhibitors, and aminoglycosides
- Increased risk of ulceration with corticosteroids and other anti-inflammatory drugs
- May displace other highly plasma-protein-bound drugs
