Mechanism of action

Indications
- Assisting parturition in cases of weak uterine contractions (after confirming there is no obstruction)
- Assisting expulsion of the placenta and uterine involution after birth
- Improving milk let-down
Contraindications & warnings
- Obstructive dystocia or fetal malpresentation — not given before these are ruled out
- A closed cervix
Drug interactions
- Its uterine effects may be aggravated with prostaglandins
